“My head above the water” 36”x48” Found sheet metal, cloth, acrylic, and oxidized metal markings on wood.
My first piece in my new workspace came fluidly. The composition and materials were all inspired by the found sheet metal. Everything is hand made from cutting the panel, stretching the cloth, and constructing the frame.
I typically don’t like titling my work, I prefer to keep it simple and let the viewer decide what they see or feel. This work however was different, I knew early on this piece represented more to me. With all the isolation going on and people out of work right now, I’m hearing comments like “When we get back to normalcy” “Just push through, It will all pass” and specifically the one that stuck with me here is “We’re all just treading water”. I can’t ignore things have been difficult, but I’ve been busy as hell and prob not as worried as most. My (over) confident approach to most everything has me finding ways to always work, that and we just moved into a new home! Through it all, my head is staying above the water. If you read this far, hope your well and staying busy. #StephenRybackiArt
